Sober Raving and Recovery Massages aT The 11th Morning Drop

Sunday morning in St Kilda usually sounds like crashing waves and the hum of the Esplanade. But on March 22nd, the vibe was a little... louder.

I joined The Morning Drop crew to set up a dedicated sports massage recovery station for Melbourne’s biggest (and best) sober rave community at Republica St Kilda Beach.

The Chaos Before the Calm

Getting there was an Olympic sport in itself. Between the 2XU Triathlon road closures, thundering packs of cyclists, and the usual St Kilda parking "geometry," it was a mission. But Melbourne doesn't quit. Around 200 participants braved the detours to run, walk, and rave.

The sun was out to play, and the energy was immediate. Josh Saunders (@yourlocalptguy) kicked things off with a warmup that transitioned into his signature tricep dip competition - nothing like a bit of healthy competition to get the lactic acid flowing before the real party started.

From London Basements to St Kilda Beach

After a short, sharp circuit, the crew moved into the Republica courtyard, where Nick Brill (@nickbrill) opened with an absolute banger. As I watched Alicia and Erin (@dancingsisters_xo) lead a Zumba number that had literally everyone moving, I couldn't help but reflect.

As a sober head (2.5 years and counting) and, let’s be honest, an ex-raver in my past London life, seeing this community thrive was a "full circle" moment. Back then, raves were about surviving the night but here, it’s about celebrating the morning. I’m seriously glad the algorithm brought this crew into my orbit.

The Recovery Station: A Blockbuster Hit

The massage recovery station was a total blockbuster. All spots disappeared even before the first drop.

I spent the morning working on weekend warrior hamstrings/glutes, lower back, quads/hips and calves tightened by the St Kilda pavement. It was sports massage with a backdrop of feel good music - honestly, the best office I’ve had in awhile.

The Best Part?

Because we started in the morning, I still had a full afternoon to soak up the lingering Melbourne warmth. No hangover, no "day after" regrets. Honestly, just high vibes, good laughs and bodies that move better than when they arrived.

Are you a "Morning Drop" regular with a lingering niggle? I’m back in the clinics this week across South Yarra, Bentleigh East, and Hampton. Let’s get those recovery gains sorted.
